When Scott heard that his brother was going to be at their sister’s place in Missouri, he wanted to be there, too. So we drove eight hours to have a mini reunion. Scott did most of the driving. I found out his brother did all of the driving from the Pacific Northwest. They left the weekend prior to getting to Missouri so that they could tour other states along the way.

Scott’s nephew is into the Titanic ship so they had tickets for the museum in Branson. Since Scott’s sister and brother-in-law were tired and wanted to sleep in, we took their place. We had a two-hour drive with four minutes of slack time according to our driver, Scott’s brother.

We got there in time to stand in a long line. We were handed boarding passes with the names of actual passengers. While waiting to get inside the museum, a crew member asked young guests the name of his/her passenger and gave all instructions about taking pictures and what to do when we got inside.

I stuck close to Scott’s niece and nephew but then noticed Scott was lingering at the exhibits so decided to stay behind with him. The group was going very fast through the exhibits so Scott wanted to go back to see parts he missed. There were less people the second time around so we got to see the life jacket that had signatures of survivors on a lifeboat, attempt to climb the sloped deck, and walk through (we didn’t sit) a lifeboat.

I didn’t want Scott’s brother and family to wait for us too long, so I didn’t take the time to read the info about my passenger but just took pictures. Scott and I were glad to find out that both our passengers survived.

I’m glad the attraction wasn’t all about the ship but about the people on the ship, too. There was so much to see but our group was nowhere to be seen. So they were definitely waiting outside. We quickly got through the gift shop and got out to see them sitting patiently on a bench. They had a big bag of souvenirs.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for time with family and loved ones. Help us to not let distance draw us apart. May we make time for each other whenever the opportunity comes our way.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Song

Nearer, My God, To Thee” by Sarah Flower Adams is a hymn that survivors say the band played while the Titanic was sinking. Sadly, none of the band members survived. They were celebrated as heroes afterwards.
