It is not unusual to feel stuck as a business owner, but we don’t have to feel that way. As believers, we can trust in the One who has called us for a purpose of serving others. We just need to do our part of the plan and move forward one step at a time.

Moving one step at a time is easy, but we need direction. It is important to make sure we are moving towards the goal God wants us to take, not away from it. So knowing why we’re in business helps us take action. Talking to God in prayer and asking Him to share His vision of our future is always good to do. Though I have to admit that asking Him to share His vision is not what I usually pray about. I usually share my vision and ask Him to bless it. I need lots of practice to hear His voice through all the distractions in my life.

After praying, we should picture what our goal looks like and write it down so we can remind ourselves when we forget or get distracted. Next, we break that goal into smaller, manageable goals. Then we break those down into daily goals. Now we know what steps to take to reach our goal.

Let’s say I want to make enough money to travel every year with my family. So I picture myself with my family on a sandy beach in Hawaii. In order to earn enough for tickets at the end of the year, I need about 56 more customers. That’s less than 5 customers a month. That doesn’t sound so bad except for me, it is a lot compared to my past activities. So a trip to Hawaii would take longer than a year for me. I could keep that as my goal with a longer deadline or change it to just a trip to the coast which would be less than 3 customers per month. The difference makes it more manageable in my mind because of the time commitment and priorities of helping Scott with his business. This achievable goal has a daily habit of me contacting a person a day to check out my services.

I use Google Keep to make a to-do list of tasks that need to be done every day and check them off when I complete them. Scott likes to time block his activities. He uses a day planner to schedule tasks that need to be done.

I’ve overheard Scott tell clients, “Goals set your priorities. Priorities set your weekly focus. Weekly focus sets your daily tasks. The daily tasks are steps on your business journey.”

Let’s take the next steps together with God’s plan in mind and celebrate each milestone!

Prayer

Dear God in heaven,

Thank you for being a good God. Help me to remember that you have a plan for me. Give me the strength and courage to move forward in confidence with You. May I hear Your voice telling me which choices to make so that I will glorify You with what I do.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen

 Call to Action

If you have already prayed, looked up the verses in your Bible, and listened to the suggested song, then think of why you are in business and write it down. Then develop a doable daily to-do list to get to your goal. If it’s not doable, then you’ll get frustrated and not reach your goal so change the deadline or break your goal down more.
