Do you make new year’s resolutions? As a business owner, it’s a good idea to have a vision of where you want to be at the end of the year. I do not make new year’s resolutions but do make goals in the beginning of the year.

Before the end of the year is a good time to reflect and prepare for the next year. So hopefully, you had an honest assessment of where you are in your business and how you are doing. Then dream of how your business will look like at the end of the next year. Make a list of what it would take to make that dream a reality. Then plan on the actions needed to get there. See my previous post on “Moving Forward” for an example.

Reflecting on how the year went is great so we can refine our goals for next year. Having goals that are challenging but not impossible according to our mind will help to make the goals more attainable.

It’s also a good idea to have the mindset to stay consistent, committed, and obsessed with your vision but also flexible to make changes if the original plan doesn’t work as expected. That is why I like to think of the plan as an experiment so that it’s easier to try a different experiment until a plan works.

I’m very forgetful so writing down my goal is important. I’m still learning where to place my written goal so I can see it when needed. I’ve “written” goals down on the computer and forget to look at them again. I’ve written them on paper and can’t find them again when needed. This year I had them on my hand-me-down Surface tablet and looked at them a couple times but now my tablet won’t turn on, so I think I’ll use the cloud to store my goals.

If possible, keep track of your progress. It could just be a check mark on the calendar. This will show how far you’ve come. Don’t forget to celebrate the milestones! This will be a great year! Keep growing better each year!

Prayer

Dear God in heaven,

Thank You for another new year to get to know You more. Help us to remember to look to You for guidance in the decisions we need to make. May our actions glorify You and point others to You.

 In Your Son’s name, Amen

  Song

Take You At Your Word“ by Cody Carnes is a great song for the new year because it encourages us to trust God’s promises and reminds us of the good He has done.

 Call to Action

If you have already prayed, looked up the verses in your Bible, and listened to the suggested song, then reflect on last year if you haven’t yet. Next, dream of where you want to be at the end of this year and make a list of what needs to be done to get there. Read my previous post “Moving Forward” to help set doable goals.
