Have you ever helped someone move a piece of large furniture? When Scott had a truck, he got asked to help people move stuff more than when he just had a car. He didn’t mind helping others when needed but sometimes transporting the stuff was the easy part. Getting the furniture out of the apartment or into a new place was the problem.
My daughter was praying for a new couch for a while. The ones she’s been looking at were on the expensive side. So when a coworker got a new couch and would give the old one away, she made plans for transport.
She got hold of a small utility trailer and needed a vehicle with a hitch. Our Jeep had a hitch so the whole family woke up early on Labor Day. My son stayed up till 4am so he didn’t sleep much that night. He slept during the drive to pick up his sister, to pick up the trailer, to drop off the old couch at Goodwill, to pick up the “new” couch, and deliver it to his sister’s place.
The owner of the trailer had the hitch ball needed to connect the trailer socket to the Jeep. It was much lighter than expected and bounced around a lot so we added bricks to keep the bouncing down. Of course, the trailer didn’t want to turn correctly when we backed up out of the driveway.
After 10 minutes of trying, my daughter took over and did a great job of driving the Jeep with the trailer. When it was loaded with furniture, the trailer was very quiet since it wasn’t bouncing. We avoided the freeways and took side roads. Thankfully, my daughter was familiar with the places she needed to get to.
The coworker lives on the 9th floor of an urban apartment community south of downtown and the tourist attractions. Thankfully there was an elevator large enough to hold a couch vertically and 6 people plus a matching ottoman. There was also a place to park that was close to the elevator so there was no problem getting the couch in the trailer. Making sure that it was tied down securely took much longer.
My daughter was so happy that we helped her move the furniture that she treated us to lunch at a place close to the Goodwill store (we dropped off another “old” piece of furniture). It was a very busy place but we got a table and enjoyed our food before returning the trailer.
Even though it was a long day, we all felt good doing things as a family. The coworker was pleasantly surprised to be an answer to prayers, and the trailer owner was a great blessing providing what my daughter needed to get the couches moved. I could see God working throughout the day.
How about you? Do you see God working throughout your day?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for family by blood and spirit. We appreciate those that You send to us when we need help. May we be an answer to prayers and be there for others when they need assistance, too.
In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Song
“The Blessing” by Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes is a song I’ve listened to many times. Friends have recommended it and vice versa. It is a very powerful song reminding us of God being with us and for us.
