After having trouble hiking Waihe’e Ridge Trail, Scott decided to buy a pair of trekking poles with the reward he received on his credit card. That trail was longer than expected and some parts were steep and muddy. I had problems going up the trail and Scott had problems going down. If our kids didn’t have to wait for us, they would have finished the hike in half the time we took.
Scott had to relearn how to walk after the removal of cancer from his leg. I am missing an ACL after a fall from a ladder. Scott wanted me to have knee surgery if I wouldn’t be able to hike with him. My orthopedic doctor was confident I would be hiking without having surgery. Therefore I went through non-surgical rehab. So we both have stability issues when hiking steep trails.
We got to use the trekking poles during our last hike in Oregon. Scott experimented using both poles and realized it was overkill for the trail we were on. So he gave me one of the poles. It’s a good thing he bought adjustable ones or it would be too long for me to use comfortably.
Using the trekking pole was like having a third leg. I felt confident going down the steeper side of the trails because the pole provided extra stability. I think our pace was faster with the poles and it seemed we were less tired so we didn’t take as many rest breaks.
This may not be a great analogy but as a business owner, having a trekking pole would be like having an assistant to help you do things so you can concentrate on the things that move your business forward. I help Scott do the repetitive or simple tasks so that he can spend that time on tasks that only he can do in the business.
Instead of a third leg, an assistant would be more like an extra hand. What tasks could you delegate to an assistant so that your time is used more efficiently and strategically?
Prayer
Dear God in heaven,
Thank You for the beautiful nature trails we can explore during our life journey. Help us to appreciate and use our time wisely. May we spend our time in ways that pleases You.
In Your Son’s name, Amen

Song
“Sometimes By Step“ by Rich Mullins is a song we listened to in the 90’s. The version I found is one done by a band Scott enjoys. Hope you enjoy this version, too.

If you have already prayed, looked up the verses in your Bible, and listened to the suggested song, then figure out which tasks that you do could be done by someone else and delegate those tasks.
