Owning your own business has its ups and downs. There’s the excitement of actually having an official website on the internet and having a satisfied customer. Then there’s the disappointment of not getting paid on time or not getting any new customers for a while.
Sometimes the downs turn into frustration that makes you want to quit but we should be persistent like the one in the story Jesus gave in the book of Luke. Okay, Jesus was using the story to teach about prayer but the principle is the same. Be persistent in asking. Though I don’t think He wants us to be obnoxious about wanting to help other people with what we have to offer.
Being in direct sales gets me out of my comfort zone. I’m renewing my mind to think of selling as serving others. When we have something that can help another person, why not let them know about it and give them a choice to see if it’s a right fit for them. It’s all about the people we serve, not the products we sell.
If you research any great entrepreneur, you’ll find that they also came to the point of giving up but they didn’t. That’s what got them to where they are. They kept going when they felt like quitting. They reflected on what could be going wrong and did something different until the outcome was working for them..
When we are feeling down, it seems like it will always feel that way but that’s not true. The Believers Instruction Book: Living Edition says our troubles are small and won’t last long. The trials are teaching us something or growing our character so we come out stronger and better able to handle future opportunities.
We should pray for wisdom to handle our setbacks so that when other business owners are overwhelmed or discouraged, we’ll know how to encourage them and know how to be there for them.
Prayer
Dear God in heaven,
Thank you for being with us through our troubles. You called us to serve through our businesses so help us through our down times. Give us the strength to follow through and hope in the bright future You have planned for us.
In Your Son’s name, Amen

“Overcomer“ is one of my favorite songs by Mandisa. I was so shocked to hear of her death. I was touched by her celebration of life service.
