For some reason, God wants me to write this post. Usually, I pray about what to write for this blog. So, the day after publishing my last post, I asked God what my topic should be for next week. During my devotion time, the subject of freedom came up and I thought that could be my next post.

Last Sunday, I just had time to type the title. Then on Monday, I wasn’t sure about the topic of freedom, so I went back to my devotion app to find the devotion that mentioned freedom. I forgot what day it was on but the app said I missed a day. Usually when this happens, I forget to hit the checkmark button of the previous day. This time, the day I missed was four days ago and it was the day that mentioned freedom. Until that day, I’m fairly sure the app said I was on track and not missing a day!

I hope this post is what God wanted me to write and someone who needed to read this does.

What did Jesus mean when He said, “If the Son sets you free, you are truly free”? Earlier He said that the truth would set us free. In my previous post, “The Truth,” we know that Jesus is the truth, God’s word is truth, and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. Therefore, according to logic, Jesus is the truth and so Jesus, the Son, sets us free.

Christ has set us free for freedom. The law of the Spirit of life in Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. No one can be right with God by doing what the law says because the law just shows us how sinful we are. The law is the power of sin that leads to death.

When we were baptized, we were united with Christ in His death and resurrection. So, our old self of sin was buried and our new raised self is no longer slaves to sin. We are under the freedom of God’s grace.

The law was not made for righteous people. We were made right through Christ. We have the freedom to do good for others and to glorify God with our actions and words. Encourage me by letting me know if this post was meant for you.

Prayer

Almighty God in heaven,

Thank You for all You have done to have a relationship with us. We do not deserve the freedom from the law, from sin, and from death that Jesus gave us through His sacrifice on the cross. Help us through the Holy Spirit in us to remember Jesus and live our lives the way You created us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen

  Song

Made A Way (Set Me Free)” by TEMITOPE is a new song for me. It was the last song on a list of songs to listen to. I was drawn to the sound of his voice and after hearing the chorus, I had to choose this song for this post.

Call To Action

If you have already prayed, looked up the verses in your Bible, and listened to the suggested song, then think of other reasons why, as a believer, you are totally free. The devotional plan I mentioned above listed six freedoms we have because of Jesus. What’s on your list?
